Climate Protectors are Growing Up
The Climate Protectors Are Growing Up project which we began as a pilot project in 2022 in collaboration with the Turkish Education Volunteers Foundation (TEGV) is the project we carry out along with the climate project for children between 6-14, which is education oriented and grounded on sustainability, to create and raise awareness among children for sustainability and climate crisis that is widely talked about today. With the participation of our 2022 General Manager Ömür Tan, General Manager of TEGV Sait Tosyalı, educators and our children, the press launch of our project were realized in Mardin.
Firstly, educators for the program were identified and trained. 10 of the 70 volunteer trainers who took part in the project were our volunteer financiers. These trainers then went through a training process of 12 meetings with the children, 2 hours one day a week.
In the project, it is aimed to enable children to connect with their real lives, to think deeply and gain knowledge about the climate, to create project ideas and prototypes by thinking in a design-oriented manner. Children's ability to develop solutions to the problems around them by considering regional differences where they live and them gaining learning experience on the project cycle is expected to accelerate permanent learning and positive behavior change.
We have trained more than 500 children in 13 provinces on climate awareness and creating solution projects. Children learned how to create projects, describe problems by improving climate awareness and produce solutions to these problems.
In 2023, we aim to reach more than 1100 children by expanding our city scope.
