How is 2025 rolling on?

  • We have published our first Sustainability Report, compliant with the TSRS, covering our activities in 2024.
  • In CDP's 2025 ratings, we were placed on the Global A List in the Climate, Water, and Deforestation programs, which we reported on for the first time.
  • We have begun publishing our “QNB Türkiye Monthly Sustainability Bulletin” on our corporate LinkedIn account, which brings together our internal steps, prominent developments from Türkiye and around the world, and inspiring approaches under one roof every month.
  • Our 2024 Integrated Annual Report, prepared with a vision of transparency and accountability, won the Silver Stevie Award in the “Best Annual Report” category at the International Business Awards (The Stevie IBA Awards) and the Platinum Award in the “Integrated Reporting” category at the League of American Communications Professionals (LACP) Vision Awards. Our report also ranked 63rd globally, 11th in the EMEA region, and among the top 20 reports in Türkiye in the “Best Financial Report” category at LACP, while also winning Gold and Technical Achievement awards.
  • In line with our commitment to contributing to Turkey's sustainable future, we have provided long-term financing support of USD 50 million for use in Rönesans Energy's renewable energy investments.
  • QNB Türkiye achieved a first in Türkiye by neutralizing its plastic footprint with certificates purchased from the first Verra-approved facility in Türkiye. In this context, it announced that it had calculated the total amount of plastic waste generated at its headquarters building, Istanbul Kristal Kule, throughout 2024 and neutralized this amount with internationally recognized plastic recycling credits.
  • As part of Plastic-Free July, in collaboration with GYMY Kids, we organized awareness-raising activities on the environmental impact of plastic waste with a nature walk, storytelling, workshops, and colorful and educational games in the Belgrad Forest on Saturday, July 26th with a team of our employees and their children.
  • The books “King Şakir, Our Friend Nature” and “King Şakir's Green Mission,” written by Varol Yaşaroğlu with the aim of encouraging children to think about nature conservation, individual responsibilities, and sustainable living, were given as report card gifts to children who visited our branch during the semester and summer breaks as part of our “Little Hands, Big Dreams” corporate social responsibility platform.
  • The National Conference of the Nature Pioneers Program, carried out in collaboration with the Turkish Ministry of National Education's General Directorate of Primary Education and WWF-Turkey (World Wildlife Fund), was held for the third time on May 27 at our bank. Thirteen projects from ten different provinces, selected from among the works prepared by the children, won awards in the categories that had the greatest impact.
  • Scratch Cup, a national technology and coding competition organized by QNB Turkey in cooperation with Habitat Association, was held with great interest and enthusiasm this year with 1,192 team applications from 52 cities.
  • The Future +1 Academy, implemented in the earthquake zone in cooperation with QNB Turkey and the Down Syndrome Association of Turkey, was completed. The program, which reached 3,621 people with training, physiotherapy consultancy and psycho-social support services, is reported to offer an inclusive and sustainable model for individuals with special needs and their families.
  • As QNB Turkey, we realized the first Sustainable Eurobond Issue amounting to 500 million dollars
  • We came together at the “Sustainable Kitchen Workshop” we organized with WWF's “Give an Hour for the Earth” call and in cooperation with the International Service and Taste Academy (USLA). With the participation of members of our QNB Turkey family and their children, we drew attention to the increasing loss of nature and the deepening climate crisis, while raising awareness on many important issues from healthy nutrition to preventing food waste to waste-free kitchen practices.
  • QNB Turkey completed its first domestic sustainable bond issuance to fund projects with high environmental and social impact. The Bank realized the first domestic sustainable bond issuance amounting to TL 250 million with a maturity of 185 days.
  • QNB Türkiye took its place on the Global A List with its high performance in the 2024 CDP Climate Change and Water Security Programs. The Bank has reinforced its leadership in environmental responsibility on a global scale.
  • Within the scope of our cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), we have successfully completed the "Triple Impact" sustainable bond issuance worth USD 100 million.
  • By successfully completing the issuance of Climate Transition Bond totaling USD 100 million with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), we have carried out the first-ever climate transition bond issuance globally.
  • As QNB Turkey, we secured a new syndicated loan from international markets totaling USD 50 million with 2 and 3-year maturities. Demand exceeding USD 650 million —more than double the maturing loan amount—and a rollover ratio of 175% ensured that the transaction was completed with strong international participation.
  • Taking a significant step to strengthen its pioneering position in the field of sustainable finance, QNB Turkey completed the first-ever sustainability-linked Interest Rate Swap (IRS) transaction in Turkey

What have we done in the past years?

2024

QNB Türkiye

  • We became the Strategic Plan Sponsor of OSBÜK Green Transformation and Sustainability Center in order to support SMEs in achieving their green transformation goals and to offer financial products & digital solutions to SMEs.
  • We were placed on the Global A List with our high performance in the 2024 CDP Climate Change and Water Security Programs.
  • QNB Turkey became a member of the Integrated Reporting Association Turkey in 2024, which aims to increase awareness of integrated reporting and thinking at the national level, develop the capacity of institutions and share good practices through national and international collaborations.
  • As QNB Group, we have become a signatory to the "Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials" (PCAF). With this membership, we increase our environmental transparency by measuring the emissions from our loans and investments in accordance with international standards.
  • As QNB, we signed the first blue bond issuance in Turkey with the issuance of green and blue bonds worth 125 million USD
  • QNB Finans Portfolio QNB Finansbank Clean Energy Index Equity Intensive Exchange Traded Fund was offered to customers.
  • QNB  received 5 awards at the LACP Vision Awards organized by the League of American Communication Professionals (LACP). With our 2023 Integrated Annual Report, we received awards in the categories of Gold Winner Worldwide, Top 20 Reports Turkey, Top 50 Reports EMEA Region, Technical Achievement, as well as the Bronze award in the Best Report Cover EMEA Region category.
  • With our 30% Club membership, which we launched in 2024, we aim to improve gender balance at all levels, particularly by increasing the representation of women on the Board of Directors.
  • In cooperation with the Association of Women Exporters (IKADE), we launched the “Export Academy for Women” project. This unique project aims to unlock the potential of women entrepreneurs in the field of exports and carry them to success in global markets.
  • As a part of our efforts to support societal gender equality, we became one of the supporters of Sabancı University Corporate Governance Forum of Turkey’s Business Against Domestic Violence (BADV) project
  • We supported the "Nature Pioneers Youth Program," a project led by WWF Türkiye and the Ministry of National Education, and hosted the Nature Pioneers National Youth Conference for the second time to raise environmental awareness and highlight global environmental issues. Held on June 5th, World Environment Day, the conference recognized 14 projects from 10 different cities, all aimed at promoting a sustainable future

  • We successfully issued our first USD 500 million sustainable eurobond in international markets. Due to strong investor demand, this transaction is notable for having the lowest borrowing rate in the Turkish banking sector since September 2021.

  • Under our "Small Hands Big Dreams" Corporate Social Responsibility Platform, focused on children and youth, we held the Scratch Cup for the fifth time this year in collaboration with the Habitat Association. Throughout the year, children who received coding training developed their games with the theme "Sustainable Living Spaces."

  • We secured a USD 400 million sustainable syndication loan, continuing our commitment to environmental, social, and economic development.
  • As ambassadors for WWF's campaign to highlight the climate crisis and nature loss, we turned off all lights in the QNB  Kristal Kule for one hour at 8:30 PM on March 23, Saturday, as part of the "Give an Hour for the Earth" initiative. In addition to participating in this impactful event aimed at buying time for the future, we also organized activities in collaboration with Gymy Kids on April 27, Saturday in Belgrad Forest. These activities included a nature walk, seed ball and music workshops, and various colorful and educational games for a team comprising our employees and their children to support nature.
  • To raise awareness among children about climate change, global warming, clean water, and our oceans, we distributed the eco-friendly book "Kral Şakir Save the World" and "Kral Şakir Our Planet" written by Varol Yaşaroğlu during the mid-term and summer break as a report card gift to children who visited our branch, as part of our corporate social responsibility platform "Small Hands Big Dreams".
  • In collaboration with QNBEYOND, we organized our first Sustainability Hackathon focusing on "Digitalization and Inclusive Financing" and "Waste Management and Recycling," with participation from various teams of our employees, including our subsidiaries.
  • We have further expanded our Exclusion List to include new coal power plants and new coal mine investments, as well as the production or trade of wood and other forest products other than sustainable forestry activities, leading the market.
  • We have made the Azalt application, which facilitates carbon footprint management, ESG reporting, and performance tracking for every company from SMEs to large-scale companies, available to our customers on the Digital Bridge Platform.
  • Under the Green Transformation Credit Program, we have developed the Loan with Lower Interest Rates as Green Increases, a financing solution that encourages carbon footprint reduction for businesses, to offer to our customers.
     

2023

QNB Türkiye

  • In 2023, we were included in the Global A List by increasing our score in the CDP Climate Change Program. Additionally, we started reporting to the CDP Water Security Program for the first time to announce our actions on managing water use and resources, and our reporting score was at the "A-" Leadership level.
  • We published our first integrated annual report. 
  • We expanded the scope of our Sustainable Finance and Product Framework in line with international standards.
  • We joined the “Leading 100s in Technology on the 100th Anniversary of the Republic” project as supporters, an initiative by the Women in Technology Association (WTECH)- Türkiye’s first in this sector.
  • We launched the Green Transformation Loan Program in November 2023 to provide financing for investments to reduce the carbon footprint of companies in order to mitigate the environmental impacts of the climate crisis, to identify their needs by raising sustainability awareness in the pre-financing period, and to encourage sustainability by measuring their environmental performance in the post-financing period and rewarding their green transformation capabilities.
  • In partnership with TOBB and Captanomy, we launched the "Carbon Platform Project" and made it available to our customers via Digital Bridge.
  • As QNB , we signed a loan agreement with EBRD, IFC, Proparco and EFSE in the amount of USD 220 million to meet the financing needs of individuals and SMEs in earthquake-affected provinces.
  • We renewed our sustainability-linked syndicated loan in June in the amount of USD 171 million and EUR 143.5 million with a roll ratio of 102% and in November in the amount of USD 241.5 million and EUR 235.7 million with a roll ratio of 108%.
  • In partnership with the Türkiye Down Syndrome Association, we established the "+1 Academy for the Future" in İskenderun.
  • In collaboration with the Female Physicians Education Support Foundation (KAHEV), we provided educational scholarships to students affected by the earthquake.
  • Our 2 headquarters (Kristal Kule and Ümraniye) received Energy Management System certification approved under the TS EN ISO 50001 standard.
  • We hosted the "Young Energy" meeting focusing on sustainability and gender equality.
  • We became a member of the Global Compact Signatories Association established to carry out the activities of the Global Compact in Türkiye.
  • In collaboration with UNICEF and the Ministry of National Education, we renovated 100 schools in earthquake-affected areas.
  • In 2023, we supported the Nature Pioneers Youth Programme led by WWF Türkiye and the Ministry of National Education and hosted the Nature Pioneers National Youth Conference.
  • We introduced Türkiye's first Green/Sustainable Deposit product to our customers.
  • In collaboration with QNB, Artkolik Art Platform, ALEM, and Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum, "Breaking Point: Write the End of The Story" exhibition met with art lovers in Bodrum.
  • The Scratch Cup 2023 was organized for the fourth time this year in cooperation with QNB  and Habitat Association with the theme of “My Clean Energy My Energy”.
  • In collaboration with Kadir Has University, we published our Gender Equality Guide involving “Banking Principles responsive to the Gender Equality” and “Action Plan” prepared with Kadir Has University.
  • We materialized the Tiny Hands Big Dreams Education Scholarship worth TL 36 million in cooperation with Turkish Education Foundation and Turkish Education Association to foster education life of earthquake-impacted children.
  • The art exhibition “Breaking Point: Write the End of the Story” we realized in cooperation with Artkolik Art Platform met with the art-lovers in Kristal Kule.
  • We were enlisted in 2023 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index.

  • QNB was enlisted in FTSE4Good index.

2022

QNB Türkiye

  • Expanded our list of unfinanced activities by including new coal thermal power plants and coal mine investment projects.
  • Started to source all of our Bank’s electricity from renewable generation.
  • We published our first integrated report. 
  •  By neutralizing the carbon emissions of online channels made our digital platforms climate-friendly.
  • Secured USD 50 million in funding from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to be used by women-led businesses.
  • As part of the SWAP agreement signed with Merrill Lynch International, our Bank agreed to receive a rebate conditional on sustainability performance criteria.
  •  Successfully signed two syndicated loan agreements based on sustainability criteria.
  • With the Blindlook integration, which provides voice guidance service that will enable our visually impaired customers to use our digital channels more easily, we have become an Eyebrand (visually-impaired) brand. 
  •  Became a member of the Business Council for Sustainable Development Türkiye.
  • In partnership with the Educational Volunteers Foundation of Türkiye (TEGV), implemented the “Climate Protectors Raising” project, aimed at educating children about climate change.
  •  Became a supporter of the Nature Pioneers Program, which is the project coordinator of WWF Türkiye and the Ministry of National Education.
  • Raised our Climate Change Program score from C to “A-“ Leadership Level, receiving one of the highest ratings in the Turkish finance sector.
  • Our three Head Offices (Kristal Kule, Ümraniye, Erzurum) received Environmental Management Certificate authorized by TÜV SÜD in the scope of TS EN ISO 14001:2015 standard. 
  • Our three Head Offices (Kristal Kule, Ümraniye, Erzurum) obtained Basic Level Zero Waste Certificate of which validity period is five years.
  • “QNB Clean Energy Index” composed of companies trading in the Istanbul Stock Exchange was established.

QNB Group

  • A second party opinion for the QNB Sustainability Finance and Product Framework was issued.
  • We sponsored COP27; hosted and attended sustainable finance activity as a panelist and participant. 
  • QNB pioneered the first repurchase transactions in Qatar.
  • The proportion of women employment which constitutes one of Sustainable key performance indicators (KPI) was guaranteed for the first time.
  • QNB was deemed worthy of four global finance awards, namely, “Supreme Leadership in Sustainable Finance”, “Supreme Leadership in Social Bonds”, “Supreme Leadership in Sustainable Bonds” and “Best Bank in Sustainable Finance”. 
     

2021

QNB Türkiye

  • As of 2021, all electricity consumed at the head office and operational buildings is supplied exclusively from renewable sources, as certified by the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC). This fully neutralized Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions from operations.
  • As QNB, we concluded two syndication loan agreements rooted in sustainable criteria. 
  • We issued our first green bond.
  • We became a signatory of UN Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs).
  • We started to report Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Climate Change Program.
  • We started to thoroughly power our Bank via renewable energy resources in 2021.

  • The Sustainability Report drawn up in accordance with GRI standards passed limited independent guarantee. 
  • “Green Bond Appropriation” and “Green Bond Environmental Impact” Reports passed independent guarantee. 
  • QNB was granted “Extraordinary Sustainable Financing in the Developing Markets” and “Supreme Leadership in Green Bonds” awards in the Middle East Regional category.
